A few coach-led summer practice days, over the period of a few weeks, are required. Coaches will alert families as soon as possible in the spring to these required practices. These begin the first week of summer in June.
Fall practices officially start in early August with “two a days”. Most likely we will practice from 2pm - 8:30pm during all of two-a-days in August. Players bring a lunch to eat during a break.
When school starts, practices run after-school until ~6pm.
Beyond the required Two a Days, other summer practices – “Organized Team Activities” a.k.a. “OTAS”, led by varsity captains, are encouraged for strength, skill development and team building. These will take place between 4pm and 6:30pm - Captains practices and Jag Power will run in the morning still.
Most players attend all days; however, coaches are clear that if you have other commitments, such as family travel, other summer sports, do those things – it’s summer!
“Jag Power” is supervised strength training at JHS Activity Center – is available year-round and highly encouraged.
The schedule is posted on the “sportsYou” app. Coaches will also share messages through the app to families and players. The best way for families to reach coaches is to message them via the app.
Players are expected to communicate directly with the coaches (in-person or via the app) if they are unable to make practice.
9th graders are with 10th – 12th graders at summer practices. When the school year starts, 9th grade has their own practice and game schedule.
Team building, such as a BBQ or beach party, typically include all 9th – 12th graders, and they are very well attended by all grades!
JHS participation fees of $110 for Summer Jag Power, $5 Summer Equipment Rental and $265 for Fall Football Participation are collected by JHS.
A booster fee of $150 is also expected per family. This includes a player pack of spiritwear and the banquet and brunch attendance for the player.
If cost is a barrier to participate in football, contact Coach Woody Bachman at mbachman@isdk271.org.
Players/families are asked to volunteer for 2+ opportunities throughout the season. This is everything from handing out rosters at varsity games, to working at a bingo fundraiser, to setting up tables for the banquet.
There are two key fundraisers that all players/families are asked to participate in. The MYAS basketball fundraiser in March and selling of Geraniums. These two activities generate roughly $50,000 in critical funds for the team and we need all families to participate to make this possible. Buy outs are possible if you are unable to participate.
9th grade home games are played on the grass field at JHS.
Being a member of the Varsity team is something which is earned. All Seniors along with any 9-12th grade player who earned a place on the varsity depth chart or practice team will dress and travel with the team.
On game days, players suit-up after school (or early-game release), and take a bus to their away game, arriving ~1 hour before the game. Most 9th grade games have free admittance for families/fans.
Players return to JHS on the bus (this is required unless a note in advance is provided); they typically leave the field about 20 minutes post-game.
Players are responsible to purchase a girdle, cup and cleats.
All other equipment (helmets, pads, pants, etc.) is provided.
The Jefferson Quarterback Club is the nonprofit booster club for the football program. It is a team of volunteers who coordinate team building activities and the critical fundraising/budget oversight for the program. We need more volunteers so please contact the QB Club or see a parent to volunteer.
